If you are CMO and your product leader aren't married at the hip, you're just missing out on just tons of opportunity.
Product and engineering are two sides of the same coin
Leadership → Org Design
Product is no longer a part of marketing, but it's actually they're married at the hip. They're one and the same, and most companies aren't operating that way.
There should be no debates over what's best for product or what's best for engineering, what's best for design speed. What is best for the organization?
The health of an organization, one simple heuristic is how close is engineering and marketing?
I think design is most successful at impacting what ships at the end if design is considered phase zero of the engineering process, rather than a by product or a part of the product process.
For a product like ours, it's hard to be have product managers that are not engineers say, oh, this is what we should do now because the right solution to the problem might be entangled in things that are technical details.
